The NHL has announced that four teams will play in the league's Global Series for the 2023-24 NHL Season. The chosen teams are the Toronto Maple Leafs, Detroit Red Wings, Ottawa Senators & Minnesota Wild, according to a NHL Press Release.

The 4 teams will play 2 games each between one another in regular season games from November 16-19 at the Avicii Arena in Sweden's capital city of Stockholm.
The NHL Hosted 2 Games in 2019 at the arena between the Buffalo Sabres and Tampa Bay Lightning, the arena then known as the 'Ericsson Globe', before being renamed in 2021 in honor of Swedish Electronic Producer Avicii, who passed away in 2018.
2019's games in Sweden were the last Global Series prior to the COVID-19 Pandemic, which delayed the event until 2022, when the NHL played games in 4 European Cities. 'Avicii Arena' also held Global Series games in 2017 as well.
All 4 chosen teams have strong Swedish ties to boost interest from viewers, the Leafs having Swedish superstar William Nylander, Detroit youngsters Lucas Raymond & Simon Edvinsson, Wild Rookie Goalie Filip Gustavsson and Swedish star Joel Eriksson Ek, and Ottawa Defenseman Erik Brannstrom.
In it's attempts to expand the league's outreach beyond North America, the league has also announced preseason games in Melbourne, Australia between the Arizona Coyotes & Los Angeles Kings.
Surely, the NHL has a deep respect for Sweden's hockey base, and looks ready to tap into their market once again, as the league looks to build an even more diverse game beyond it's 32 cities.
