Late in the 2nd period Toronto Maple Leafs' forward Michael Bunting was on the receiving end of two cross checks from Jake Walman. The hits knocked Bunting to the ice and Walman received a 2 minute penalty on the play. But Walman wasn't the only player sent to the box as Bunting surprisingly received a penalty of his own for embellishing.

That was followed by a scrum at the end of the 2nd period. As the teams begin to separate Bunting intentionally knocks the stick away from Mortiz Seider. To everyone's surprise the officials opted to award Bunting a 10-minute misconduct for his actions.
The Maple Leafs were clearly unhappy about the play, but Bunting's reputation clearly played a role here. After the game an unhappy Keefe had this to say about the play when asked if he was surprised.
Surprised? I mean, based on the way that he's been officiated of late, no, I'm not surprised at all ... Bunts has got to do his best to stay on the line & in terms of how he's been officiated, Kyle will deal with that with the league.

He eats 3 cross-checks & he gets taken to the box with it. I don't know if he had 4 or 5 punches in the face in the scrum & he ends up with a misconduct so it's tough for him, but he's got to find his way through that & Kyle will deal with the other stuff ...
The Maple Leafs have done a very good job of making themselves public enemy number one for officials and Bunting has made officials look silly on more than one occasion. It's only a matter of time before your reputation catches up to you.
