The NHL and commissioner Gary Bettman are reportedly considering postponing the Boston Bruins season opener due to safety concerns.

The Bruins (and their goaltender Swayman) are set to play their first game of the regular season on Tuesday, in Florida, against the Stanley Cup champions Panthers.

This game will be exciting to watch for multiple reasons, but mainly because the last time these two teams faced on the ice, it was in the second round of last year's playoffs, where the Panthers won in seven games against the Bruins.

There's no doubt that Boston players still have a chip on their shoulder, but the Panthers will look to get a great start of the season after winning the Stanley Cup. It's hard to say who'd get the upper hand in that matchup. However, there are chances that it won't even happen, as the NHL and Gary Bettman are apparently considering postponing the game because of safety concerns.

Down in Florida, the Hurricane Milton is expected to hit hard over the next few days. While the Bruins are already in Florida, it could be possible to see the League decide to postpone the game in order to avoid incidents.

A new report revealed that the NHL will make a decision later today on whether or not the game should be postponed.

Per Jimmy Murphy:

This would be terrible for hockey fans, who waited so long to see their team on the ice for the first regular season game. Especially for Panthers' fans, who already had to cancel the Stanley Cup Rings ceremony. However, if risks are too high, it would make no sense to prioritize a hockey game over the safety of thousands of fans.

Stay tuned as we await the NHL's decision.
