Dan Milstein, a prominent hockey agent representing several notable NHL players, has voiced his criticism towards the Canadian government on new rules meant to curb housing prices in the country. Milstein expressed his dissatisfaction with the recent legislation pertaining to purchasing homes in Canada, referring to a recent amendment as 'worthless.'

The majority of Milstein's clients are Russian-born players. The Canadian government recently implemented a ban on non-Canadians buying homes in an effort to control the increasing costs of real estate, as many of the homes were left unoccupied, driving up prices. However, this policy also negatively impacted those in the country on work permits. The government subsequently amended the law to permit more work permit holders to buy homes, but Milstein remains unsatisfied.

"Worthless Amendment while the US & others can buy homes in Canada, politicians didn't mention that there is still 25% provincial tax on purchase price. I would never suggest any of my clients playing or wanting to play in Canada pay 25% over asking price."

When a person responded that it was difficult to empathize with someone earning $7 million annually and being compelled to rent instead of owning a home, Milstein found himself having to justify his stance.

"Players earning $7 (million) per year pay close to $4 (million) in taxes for roads, schools and Canadian infrastructure. Don't blame athletes, blame the officials that can't balance the budget and uncontrollably spend your hard earned money."

Although Canada has higher taxes compared to most US states, this is not a new issue for hockey players. There are reportedly methods available for players to protect their income while residing in Canada, allowing them to earn similar or equivalent amounts to those living in the US.

Milstein represents several renowned NHL players such as Nikita Kucherov, Andrei Vasilevskiy, Ilya Sorokin, Ilya Mikheyev, Andrei Kuzmenko, Alexander Romanov, and several other Russian-born players. The only non-Russian player on his client roster is Canadian Evander Kane.
