It's understandable that Toronto Maple Leafs' forward Michael Bunting would consider testing free agency after two productive seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs. This is likely the only chance in his career that he'll be able to cash in. It'll be far more appealing to him, especially if he receives a significant offer from other teams in the league.

According to Mike Johnson of TSN, those other teams are certainly willing to do so.

Bunting's ability to bring energy and finish offensive chances makes him a valuable asset to any team, including the Leafs who are in need of left-wing options.

I've talked to teams around the league that like Bunting and would give him term... I think if he goes to market him getting a 6-year $24M contract is not out of the question.

The Maple Leafs may not be willing, or able, to match offers from other teams if they are significantly higher than what they can afford. Bunting may have to take a hometown discount if he wants to stay with the Leafs, although it's uncertain how much of a discount the Leafs would require. According to Mike Johnson, Bunting could garner up to $4M annually on a six-year contract.

Ultimately, it will be up to Bunting and his agent to weigh their options and decide what is best for his career and financial future.
