Former EBUG David Ayres Accused of Abuse By Ex-Wife
It's been just over 18 months since David Ayres suited up as an emergency backup goalie for the Carolina Hurricanes against his hometown Toronto Maple Leafs. When both of the Hurricanes' goalies fell to injury in the second period, Ayres suited up looking to defend a 3-1 lead. He would secure the win for Carolina, thus establishing himself as a folk legend in the NHL.
After the fact, Ayres and his wife, Sarah, held a strong social media presence, looking to turn their once-in-a-lifetime experience into possible business opportunities as well as other avenues/initiatives. From the outside, they were just an earnest working-class couple who carved out a niche for themselves; cool.
However, based on Sarah Ayres' most recent Twitter post, it looks like there is trouble in paradise. Ayres recently shared in an emotional yet vague tweet that she has been a victim of abuse for some time. Her Twitter bio reads 'Diehard Leafs/Canes fan, Mum and Ex-Wife.' November 4th must have been a day of significance, as she notes that as the day of remembrance for her troubles.
"November 4th is going to go down as the very last day that I will ever have to hear someone say to me "just look at you, you're fat and disgusting!" It will be the last time I'm told I'm ugly, it will be the last day of mental anguish that I have to face at the hands of someone who swore they loved me. No more gaslighting, narcissism, abuse or control. The ugly cry has happened and it was harsher than harsh. The realization that I subjected myself to so much negativity is beyond comprehension."
In the post's comments, she revealed some more on the situation in response to questions, suggesting her ex-husband was the culprit.
Given the generally positive image in which David Ayres has been portrayed, this might come as a surprise. It certainly did for me. But I suppose this is often the case. As privacy becomes harder and harder to come by, folks adapt and sometimes even develop two sides of themselves. One on the outside and a whole different person on the inside. So what we see behind the screen ends up being totally different from the person on the other end.
Hopefully, everyone involved undergoes the growth that they need and the healing process is thorough and complete.
