The Ottawa Senators announced on Thursday that they've agreed to terms on a two-year contract extension worth $1.67 million ($830,000 AAV) with forward Mark Kastelic.

"Mark has worked tirelessly to earn all that has come his way since being a late round draft pick three years ago," said Senators general manager Pierre Dorion. "He's reliable, competitive, takes exceptional pride in his conditioning and routinely showcases a willingness to take on any challenge. He's set a very good example for the young players and prospects throughout the organization."

Kastelic, 23, was drafted by the Senators in the fifth round (125th overall) in 2019. After five years in the WHL with the Calgary Hitmen, Kastelic made the jump to professional hockey and spent the 2020-21 season with Belleville in the AHL.

The Phoenix (Arizona) native made his NHL debut last season and went on to appear in 16 games for the big club, but ultimately spent the majority of the year in the AHL, where he had 28 points in 64 games.

After a solid training camp, Kastelic made the opening night roster and has gone on to play in all six game thus far for the Senators this season, scoring twice. With fellow centerman Josh Norris expected to miss the majority, if not the remainder of the season, Kastelic will likely take on a bigger role for Ottawa.
