The Minnesota Wild are in an interesting spot after this offseason. The team lost Kevin Fiala, and the team will be dealing with the first season of cap hits due to the Zach Parise and Ryan Suter buy-outs. Now, a top-tier prospect seems primed for a major role.

Bill Guerin went out and traded Calen Addison almost immediately upon becoming general manager in Minnesota, acquiring him in the Jason Zucker trade. After a couple of years developing in the minors, Addison's spot in the NHL appears to have opened up.

The Wild traded Dmitry Kulikov for future considerations, which seemingly means that Addison will have even less competition at getting a roster spot. Addison may only get third-pairing minutes, being the third right-handed defenseman behind Jared Spurgeon and Matt Dumba, but he could become the quarterback on the top power play unit.

Of course, Dumba and Spurgeon are both somewhat injury prone, with Dumba missing significant time over the past couple of seasons. If one of them were to miss time, Addison would be the next man up, giving him his time to shine even brighter with the loads of potential he possesses.
