Tim Stützle just got a the payday of a lifetime after just his second NHL season. He and Ottawa agreed to an eight-year, $66 million contract extension yesterday, setting he and his family up for life. During the media tour that followed the announcement, the kid from Viersen, Germany received one question asking what his new deal means for him. What followed was an incredible answer:

Stützle said: «My parents don't have to work anymore. That's #1.»

You feel that? Rockstar material right there.

His new pay-rate will not kick into effect until 2023-24, but that kind of guaranteed money changes people's lives instantaneously. In a time when global economies are trending downwards, a cool $66 million takes a load off in igniting the furnace for the winter.

Stützle's hometown of Viersen is a small, humble city in western Germany, not far from the Dutch border. His character resembles the town from which he hails, and he has all the makings of a star in the NHL. Smart people predict Stützle having an incredible 2022-23 season, and I am inclined to agree.

Likely manning the left wing on a line with Claude Giroux and Alex DeBrincat, Stützle will be in a strong position to start the season, and the three of them could be a top trio in the NHL. Exciting time for the Senators' faithful.
