After weeks of speculation regarding the whereabouts and condition of Philadelphia Flyers goaltender Ivan Fedotov, we're finally hearing from the man himself. The 25-year-old, who had signed a one-year deal with Philly in May with the intent of coming to North America for the 2022-23 season, was arrested in June and sent to a military base to carry out Russia's mandatory military service. Fedotov was accused of having fake papers that gave him an exemption.

"At a difficult time for us, we - the family and loved ones - can't help but notice how a huge number of concerned people around the world are responding to Ivan's story," said his wife Nadezhda Fedotova in a social media post. "At Ivan's request, we want to pass on his words of gratitude."

"I would like to thank all of my fans at this difficult time for their support and comments on media publications," said Fedotov through his wife. "Guys, thank you for not ignoring my situation! Thank you to everyone who leaves a mark in my life story with their voice and participation. Thank you to the professional community for your perspective, whatever it may be. I know I hear your voices, and it gives me strength and strengthens my faith in the best outcome of my situation."

According to Fedotov's lawyer, he is at a military base in the Arkhangelsk region of Russia. The area lies within the Arctic circle.

Fedotov was arrested following the detention of a former police officer back in April who has been accused of falsifying military documents for several clients. Russian officials claim that person's phone contained messages between him and Fedotov. The netminder was drafted by Philadelphia in the 7th round in 2015. Fedotov has won a Gagarin Cup in the KHL and is an Olympic medalist with Team Russia.
