After parts of nine seasons with the Montreal Canadiens, Jeff Petry was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins along with Ryan Poehling in exchange for Mike Matheson and a 2023 fourth round pick.

One day after the trade, Petry took to Instagram to thank the City of Montreal, the fanbase and the organization for his time with the Canadiens.

Part of Petry's post said, "Montréal, thank you for the last 7 years!

To the Molson family & entire Canadiens organization, thank you for giving me & my family the opportunity to be part of such a storied franchise! I will forever be grateful I was able to wear that sweater with such pride, and my family was able to be a small part of an incredible franchise.

All the memories made over the years will stay with us forever & the last 8 seasons will always be a special part of my hockey career that shaped me into the player & teammate I am now.

To the passionate fans of the bleu, blanc & rouge, thank you for giving your heart & soul to this organization even through its ups & downs, and making it one of the best markets to play in."

In 508 games with the Canadiens, Petry had 248 points (70 goals, 178 assists), 186 penalty minutes and was a minus-56. The Ann Arbor (Michigan) native had four consecutive seasons of 40+ points from 2017 to 2021.

Petry had a strong tenure with Montreal, helping them reach the Stanley Cup Final last summer. He will fit in well with the Penguins and the window of opportunity they have to win another Stanley Cup.
