The Anaheim Ducks have been without a general manager since Bob Murray stepped down in November amid an investigation into his workplace conduct.

According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Ducks are closing in on naming their new GM.

"Another situation to watch with the Ducks is, I think they're getting closer, if not potentially this week, to hiring a new General Manager. There are three internal candidates that we know, but of the external candidates, one who I believe has a legitimate shot is Pat Verbeek. I think he's very much in the running for Anaheim," Friedman said during Saturday's edition of 32 Thoughts on Hockey Night in Canada.

Verbeek, 57, played 1,424 career games in the NHL for New Jersey, Hartford, the New York Rangers, Dallas and Detroit. A few years after retiring, Verbeek joined the Red Wings as a scout, before spending nine seasons in Tampa Bay in various front office roles.

The Sarnia, Ontario native returned to the Red Wings ahead of the 2019-20 season to become their assistant general manager.
