The Dallas Stars and defenceman John Klingberg have had a bit of a rocky relationship in the past month or so.

Earlier in January, Klingberg requested a trade away from the Stars according to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period due to contract extension talks breaking down. The day after Pagnotta reported the trade request, Klingberg told reporters that he doesn't feel like he's appreciated by the team.

During the 32 Thoughts during the second period on Hockey Night in Canada, Sportsnet insider Jeff Marek said that the Stars are beginning to step up trade talks for the 29-year-old.

"We can report today that the Dallas Stars have stepped up their efforts to trade John Klingberg," Jeff Marek said. "We believe very much he is getting dealt. Hard to say exactly when, but Dallas does seem aggressive in wanting to get something done soonish."

Prior to Saturday's tilt against the Tampa Bay Lightning, Klingberg was dropped to the Stars' third d-pairing, playing alongside Joel Hanley.

Klingberg, a native of Gothenburg, Sweden, has appeared in 30 games this season for the Stars where he's tallied seventeen points (one goal, sixteen assists), twelve penalty minutes, and is a minus-eleven.
