Tomas Hertl is no doubtedly at least one piece of the San Jose Sharks' heart and soul, and the team is hoping to keep him around for even longer.

TSN's Pierre LeBrun reported that he thinks the Sharks will be making a contract offer to the veteran forward within the next month.

«I expect the San Jose Sharks to circle back around over the next month here and perhaps make an offer to Tomas Hertl,» Pierre LeBrun reported.

Hertl has been lights out so far as he currently has 20 goals and 31 points in 38 games this season. If he continues to score at his current pace, he would be enroute to score 43 goals, which would also be a career high.

After the team waived Evander Kane, they will now have an extra $7 million to work with for contracts and extensions for next year. Hertl will likely make somewhere between $6-$8 million per year on his next contract, but that number could be less if the reports that he would take a team-friendly deal are true.

The alternate captain is highly respected in the team's dressing room, and he has been a fan favorite for years now. The Sharks are currently in a reset, but they have been surprising the NHL, as they currently hang on to the last wild card spot in the Western Conference.
