This past week, the San Jose Sharks terminated the contract of Evander Kane due to a violation of COVID-19 protocols.

It is being reported that Kane flew from the United States into Canada while having COVID-19. He is being investigated by the league and could be given a lengthy suspension by commissioner Gary Bettman, but even worse for himself could be facing a criminal investigation for giving a false testimony and violating the Canadian Federal Quarantine Act. Failure to comply "may result in fines, imprisonment or both."

As pointed out by Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, the Government of Canada states "no person who tested positive for COVID-19 is permitted to board a 'public flight' until '15 days have passed.' The Sharks alleged that Kane traveled eight days after his positive test, in violation with federal law.

"If those allegations are established as fact, it is also possible that Kane could face a criminal investigation for giving false testimony and violating the Canadian federal Quarantine Act."

With this coming out, it makes it less likely that the teams pursuing Kane in recent days have as much interest now. At the very least, they will likely sit back and wait to see what comes of this all. It is yet again more drama involving the 30-year-old, who has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons over the past year.
