New Jersey Devils star forward Jack Hughes has become quite the player since his rookie season, where many people were labeling him as a bust. After recording just 21 points (7 goals, 14 assists) in 61 games in his first season, Hughes opened up about the difficulties of adapting to play in the NHL.

"I hated it...It's like you've got McDavid one night, and then you got Marchand the next night, then Crosby the next night. People would call me some pretty boy hockey player that couldn't play."

Even though Hughes admits to his struggles in his rookie year, he has started to find his footing in the NHL, as he is currently over a point-per-game player this season with 20 points (9 goals, 11 assists) in 20 games so far. Although Hughes is enjoying success, the Devils record says otherwise. New Jersey is just 7th in the Metropolitan Division with a 14-17-5 record at almost the midway point in the season.
