Tuukka Rask's professional tryout with the Providence Bruins has ended, and the goaltender didn't get the chance to suit up for a game. Rask hasn't played since last season after undergoing hip surgery over the summer. The idea was to send him to the AHL to get back in game shape after his recovery from the operation, but Providence was shut down due to an outbreak of COVID-19. Boston coach Bruce Cassidy said what happens now is still being sorted out.

"I have nothing else other than Providence's next game right now is Friday," Cassidy said. "So we'll have to discuss whether that's in play or right into our net at some point.

"So that's what the discussion will entail, but we have a few days to sort through that so I imagine we'll get to it tomorrow or Wednesday."

As far as anyone can tell, Rask hasn't officially signed with Boston yet, although that seems to be a foregone conclusion at some point. Cassidy has said he plans to keep Rask and fellow goaltenders Jeremy Swayman and Linus Ullmark on the roster at least for the first couple of weeks.

Update: Boston Bruins officially sign Tuukka Rask
