After taking a personal leave of absence of the Columbus Blue Jackets and then getting suspended for telling the team he would not be returning, the reasoning behind Gregory Hofmann's decision is becoming a bit clearer. EV Zug of the Swiss National League has announced Hofmann is signing with them as soon as his NHL contract is terminated.

"As soon as all NHL transfer formalities have been completed, he will resume his contract at EV Zug," said the team in a Tweet.

Hofmann, 29, played for EV Zug the last two seasons before joining the Blue Jackets this year. He had played in 24 games with Columbus, netting two goals and seven points. On Monday, the team announced he had been suspended.

"Gregory was given permission by the club to step away for personal reasons and informed us today that because of those reasons he has decided not to return," said Blue Jackets General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen. "Obviously, we are disappointed, but we have no other recourse than to suspend him."

Hofmann was initially a fourth round pick of the Carolina Hurricanes, but decided to remain in Switzerland until this season.
