During an appearance on TSN 1260 radio, insider Darren Dreger revealed that the Edmonton Oilers are showing interest in free agent forward Evander Kane, and that general manager Ken Holland has gone as far as talking to his agent, Dan Milstein.

"I know the Oilers have made calls. I know Kenny Holland has talked to the agent Dan Milstein. Where the Oilers fit in terms of the list of team that will explore the interest in Evander Kane, I think given the obvious, the way the Edmonton Oilers see a pretty bright future in not only Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl but some of the other assets, Evander Kane would be wise to look at the Edmonton Oilers," Dreger said on Monday afternoon.

He added, "I think Edmonton, if they stay interested as it seems, they'll probably be in the top-five in Kane's perspective. That might be a bit premature, again, this is all pretty new, fresh and clubs are still exploring whether or not he would be the right fit. I believe there are at least fifteen to twenty teams that have expressed some level of interest in Evander Kane. If you look at the Oilers as an example here, from a hockey perspective, I could make a case for Evander Kane in Edmonton."

Kane, 30, was placed on unconditional waivers on Saturday because he reportedly breached his contract and violated the AHL's COVID-19 protocol rules. Kevin Kurz of The Athletic reported that Kane took a trip up to Vancouver while he was supposed to be isolating at his home in San Jose after testing positive for COVID-19.

If the Oilers do decide to sign Kane, he would provide some scoring depth for their lineup. He led the Sharks in goals (22) and points (49) during the 2020-21 season and has scored 20+ goals in seven of his twelve NHL seasons.
