Sanderson, 19, was taken fifth overall by the Senators at the 2020 NHL Entry Draft and is not only one of the organization's best prospects, but one of the top prospects in the entire league. The six-foot-two defender is in his second season with the University of North Dakota and is currently leading his team in scoring with 22 points in just 17 games.
While it is a major disappointment that NHL players will not be playing in the 2022 Olympics, it opens the door for players such as Sanderson to get this massive opportunity. How big his role on the team will be remains to be seen, but regardless this is a huge deal for a player who is as young as Sanderson is.
