Carey Price could return to the ice later this week; Ducharme provides update

Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price underwent exams with team trainers on Sunday and it revealed "nothing new," according to head coach Dominique Ducharme.

It's a sign that the 34-year-old is heading the right direction, but because of the Canadiens' extended layoff due to the NHL's holiday break and their own COVID-19 shutdown, Price will need to get back to where he was prior to Christmas.

"#Habs Ducharme says results from Price's exams with trainers on Sunday revealed "nothing new" and that he is in the 'same point as he was before Christmas.' Price has resumed training in the gym and will possibly return to on-ice work later this week," TSN's John Lu said in a tweet on Monday.

He added, "#Habs Ducharme says Price hasn't experienced a setback in his recovery, but because he's been out of the rink for several days (due to team's COVID shutdown) he and the training staff need to rebuild what he had accomplished prior to Christmas."

Price, a native of Anahim Lake, British Columbia, has yet to play this season due to recovery from his off-season knee surgery and the time he spent in the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program.

With the trade deadline in just over two months and rumours circling that the Canadiens could move on from their star goaltender, teams will want to see him in action before making a final decision on if it's worth making an offer to acquire him. Price has a no-movement clause, which mean any deal the Canadiens want to make, he has the final say.
