While the NHL struggles to keep games going amid rising numbers of COVID case counts, Detroit Red Wings Gm Steve Yzerman wonders why vaccinated players are being subjected to so much testing.

"Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman is asking why the NHL is testing vaccinated players if they don't have symptoms," said reporter Brad Galli, who took part in a Zoom call with Yzerman.

"He said most of the cases across the league are at worst a mild cold."

The Red Wings have a number of players in COVID protocol at the moment, as well as head coach Jeff Blashill and associate coach Alex Tanguay.

"Nobody wants anyone to get violently ill," Yzerman said. "My perception is (our team) will do anything to get through this."

He added the team is encouraging all of its players and staff to get a COVID booster. Yzerman also stated all of the Red Wings cases of COVID have included mild symptoms.

Detroit has the only unvaccinated player in the NHL this season in Tyler Bertuzzi. He has already hit the COVID protocol list.
