It's not yet clear whether NHLers will be going to the Winter Olympics in Beijing in February, but if they do, Evgeny Kuznetsov of the Washington Capitals won't be there.

Back in August of 2019, Kuznetzov was suspended from international play by the International Ice Hockey Federation for four year after testing positive for cocaine a few months prior at the World Championships in Slovakia. The Russian Hockey Federation had been attempting to get the ban shortened over the last few months so Kuznetzov could play at the Olympics in February. IIHF President Luc Tardiff said it's not happening.

"I will not change the decision on Kuznetsov, I am sorry, but this will not change. He won't be able to play in Beijing. I know I upset everyone with the answer, but we cannot change the rules for one thing," said Tardiff.

"Representing my country has always been so close to my heart and something I take so much pride in," said Kuznetzov back when the suspension was announced. "Not being able to put that sweater on for four years is very hard to take. I have disappointed so many people that are important to me, including my family, teammates and friends."

Kuznetzov is currently in COVID protocol, his third time on the list after being added twice last season.
