San Jose Sharks head coach Bob Boughner announced on Wednesday that forward Kevin Labanc will miss roughly three months of action after suffering a dislocated shoulder.

The injury occurred on Saturday night when he was hit by Dallas Stars defenceman Jani Hakanpaa. Labanc was originally listed as out for one-to-two weeks, but after further examination, it was determined that his shoulder would require surgery, which he will undergo next week.

Labanc, 26, was having an underwhelming season up to this point. In 21 games, he's only recorded six points (three goals, three assists) along with six penalty minutes, and is a minus-four. He was even made a healthy scratch in early-December.

According to Sheng Peng of NBC Sports, the San Jose Sharks have opted to put Labanc on injured reserve rather than long-term injured reserve. That move is interesting because Labanc is expected to miss more than the ten-game or twenty-four-day requirement to be on LTIR.
