With the current surge in positive COVID-19 test results from around the NHL, the most common concern people have is whether or not the league is headed for another pause.

Well, according to ESPN's Emily Kaplan, the league and the NHLPA have had no discussions regarding any sort of a hiatus due to COVID-19 at this time.

Kaplan also revealed that the NHL and NHLPA have a series of pre-arranged conference calls set up and that they could meet on Tuesday evening or sometime Wednesday to discuss whether or not enhanced protocols are required.

*Update: TSN's Pierre LeBrun has confirmed that the meeting will occur tonight.*

The 2019-20 pause and the delay of the shortened 2020-21 season have already cost the owners and the players a lot of money, so the financial implications of another pause - or to have to go back to arenas without fans - could be catastrophic and further delay any salary cap increases.

Another issue appears to be that the chances of NHL players heading to China for the 2022 Olympic Games is getting smaller by the day.
