In the midst of what is the Montreal Canadiens' worst season in recent memory, the drama off the ice continues as well. Stephane Waite, who served as the Habs goaltending coach for close to eight years, appeared on a French-language radio program Monday and talked about how the coaching staff would joke about the lack of scoring from forward Jonathan Drouin.

Waite appeared on 98.5 FM radio in Montreal where he said the coaching staff wondered why Drouin would always pass the puck, even when he appeared to have a great scoring chance.

"We said as a joke: 'Come on, does Jo have a clause in his contract which means that he is not allowed to score?," said Waite.

As you may recall, Drouin took time away from the team during the 2020-21 season in order to deal with anxiety and insomnia issues, which some believe were caused by the pressure of a hometown player suiting up for the Montreal Canadiens. Waite's comment did not sit well with Drouin's agent Allan Walsh.

"How sad is it that Stephane Waite who was fired as the Canadiens goaltending coach is so desperate for attention that he's doing interviews talking about what he claims went on inside the Habs dressing room and taking shots at various players. A real pro," said Walsh.

It's worth noting that Waite, who was with the Canadiens to coach and mentor Carey Price, did an interview when it was first announced that Price was enrolling himself in the NHL's Player Assistance program where he said there was no way it had anything to do with drugs or alcohol. After finishing the program, Price himself made a statement where he said substance abuse was one of the reasons he enrolled.
