But first, let's flashback to December 2nd when CSKA Moscow was facing off against Lokomotiv Yaroslavl. The game was tied at 0-0 after regulation and head coach/Hockey Hall of Famer Sergei Fedorov decided to pull his goalie roughly half-way through the overtime period. His team went on to win after former NHLer Mikhail Grigorenko fired the rebound home with 1:44 remaining in OT.

Then on December 6th, Fedorov did it again, this time against CSKA's rival, Dynamo Moscow. The game was tied 2-2 in overtime, and with 3:25 left in the period, former NHL defenceman Nikita Nesterov ripped the puck clean past Dynamo Moscow's goaltender.
With those two wins, CSKA Moscow now sits tied for first in the KHL's Western Conference with Jokerit, who they'll face on December 20th.

It's certainly a bold strategy, and it paid off twice for Fedorov, but could an NHL coach use this in the near future?
If they do, there is one rule they need to be aware of. If an NHL team pulls their goalie in overtime and gets scored on, they won't receive a point as per a rule added prior to the start of the 2015-16 season, when 3-on-3 overtime was introduced.
"Clubs who pull their goaltender for an extra attacker during the overtime period (other than on a delayed penalty) will be subject to the potential forfeiture of their one (1) point earned for the tie at the end of regulation in the event the opposing team scores into the empty net," the NHL's rulebook says.
