The San Jose Sharks will be making a huge lineup change for tonight's game versus the Calgary Flames. Struggling forward Kevin Labanc will be a healthy scratch.
The 25-year-old has not been the same player after signing his most recent 4-year, $18.9 million extension back in 2020. This season he has just 6 points (3 goals, 3 assists) in 19 games. Over his past 5 games, Labanc has had 77 shifts, but produced just 8 shots on net, 5 hits, 0 points, and was minus two during that time.
Sharks head coach Bob Boughner explained that he just needs more from the young forward.
«He just needs to be better. We need more from him. We've tried him on different lines and we want to play with a certain identity and everybody's got to be on that same page.»
Labanc started that season on the third line with Nick Bonino and Matt Nieto, before being promoted to the top six. Even with the promotion playing with better players, he did not produce. He ended up finding himself on the fourth line for quite some time, and now he will be watching at least tonight's game from the press box.
