Tuesday has been a busy day for the waiver wire in the NHL, as there were some players placed on waivers today, while a few others were claimed.

The first claim of the day was by the Tampa Bay Lightning, as they chose to grab forward Riley Nash off of waivers from the Winnipeg Jets. Offence has been hard to come by for the 32-year-old this season, as in 15 games he has failed to hit the scoresheet. The former first-round pick of the Edmonton Oilers has played in 593 career games, registering 63 goals and 172 points.

The second claim of the day was by the Philadelphia Flyers, who scooped up Kevin Connauton who was previously with the Florida Panthers. The 31-year-old has played in 13 games, but like Nash has failed to record a single point. He has played in a total of 334 games over his NHL career.

On top of the claims, the Edmonton Oilers chose to waive forward Brendan Perlini while the Columbus Blue Jackets did the same with Scott Harrington. Perlini had an outstanding preseason with the Oilers which earned him a one-year deal, but has been a nonfactor ever since with no points in 13 regular season contests. Harrington struggled to get in the lineup with the Blue Jackets this season, appearing in only six games where he recorded one assist.

One more interesting tidbit came out this morning, as it is being reported that goaltender Devan Dubnyk has signed a professional tryout offer with the Charlotte Checkers in the American Hockey League. The 35-year-old struggled in stints with both the San Jose Sharks and Colorado Avalanche last season and as a result went unsigned this summer.
