After Sunday's tilt between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Winnipeg Jets getting so out of hand, it seemed like a foregone conclusion that the NHL's Department of Player Safety would be busy on Monday, and so they are.

Winnipeg Jets defenseman Neal Pionk will have a hearing on Monday for his third period knee-on-knee hit on Leafs blueliner Rasmus Sandin, which had forced Sandin out of the contest with an injury. There was no penalty assessed on the play and no update was available on Sandin after the game.

The Leafs bench was absolutely livid following Pionk's knee-on-knee hit on Sandin, with John Tavares and Jason Spezza taking exception from the bench, screaming at the officials to no avail.

On the very next opportunity, Spezza took it upon himself to exact some revenge on Pionk for the hit, delivering a hard check to Pionk while he was already on one knee, sliding on the ice. Spezza appeared to make contact with Pionk's head, and has been offered an in-person hearing to take place over Zoom with a time and date yet to be determined.

Leafs winger Wayne Simmonds has also been fined $2,250 by the DoPS for a cross check to Winnipeg's Jansen Harkins.

No word yet on whether Pierre-Luc Dubois will face any supplemental discipline for roughing Leafs forward Auston Matthews or kneeing Leafs goalie Joseph Woll in the head.
