Social media went abuzz when it was announced that Tuukka Rask was practicing with the Boston Bruins, with many anticipating it had meant that he signed a new contract.

According to TSN's Pierre LeBrun however, Rask has not, at least to this point, signed a deal with the Bruins. Instead, he is skating with them as an emergency back up goaltender (EBUG) as Linus Ullmark is out with a non-COVID related illness. Still, this is a good sign for both Rask's recovery as he continues to progress from offseason hip surgery, and suggests that he could very well return to the Bruins in the near future.

Rask, 34, had his future with the Bruins in question after the team chose to sign Ullmark to a lengthy deal this offseason. Between himself and Jeremy Swayman, it looked like there may not be room for Rask, but as the season goes on it looks like that may no longer be the case. Rask is reportedly hoping to return in January, and would likely sign for very cheap in hopes of going on a Stanley Cup run. In 24 starts last season, he had a 2.28 goals against average along with a .913 save percentage.
