Dallas Stars goaltender Ben Bishop has had a tough go over the last twenty-one months. In March 2020, he had surgery on his knee and in the time between then and now, Bishop has only played one game, and that came during the 2020 Stanley Cup Playoffs against Colorado.

Bishop then needed to have a second, more complex surgery on his knee with led to him missing the entire 2020-21 season and to start this season, the Stars placed him on long-term injured reserve.

According to Matthew DeFranks of The Dallas Morning News, the Stars are going to be assigning Bishop to their AHL affiliate, the Texas Stars, for a conditioning stint.

"The Stars plan on sending goaltender Ben Bishop on a conditioning assignment to AHL affiliate Texas this week, according to a source," DeFranks said in a tweet.

Once Bishop returns to the Stars lineup, which still might be a little ways away, they'll be dealing with an even bigger logjam in net, as well as a salary cap issue. This weekend during Hockey Night in Canada, Sportsnet's Jeff Marek reported that the Stars are testing the water on goaltender Anton Khudobin and so far, the only known team to have shown interest is the Buffalo Sabres.

Bishop, 35, has two more years left on his contract, including this season, at a cap hit of $4,916,667. He'll become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st, 2023.
