The Montreal Canadiens announced on Thursday morning that forward Brendan Gallagher and defenceman Sami Niku have entered the NHL's COVID-19 protocol.

"Forward Brendan Gallagher and defenseman Sami Niku have entered the NHL's COVID-19 protocol. Both players are being monitored closely by team doctors and following the guidelines and protocols set by the NHL." The Canadiens said via their Twitter account.

Both Gallagher and Niku could have ended up in the league's protocols for a couple of reasons, the first being that they potentially tested positive, or the second being that they have an inconclusive test. If either of them have tested positive, they must remain away from the team for a minimum of ten days and have multiple negative tests in order to return.

Gallagher, 29, has appeared in twenty-three games this season where he's tallied ten points (four goals, six assists), twenty-four penalty minutes, and is a minus-three.

Niku, a native of Haapavesi, Finland, has played in nine games for Montreal this season, being scratched or injured for a majority of the season thus far. In those nine games, he has three assists, two penalty minutes, and is a plus-two.

As of right now, Montreal's game tonight against the Colorado Avalanche is scheduled to go ahead as planned.
