On Wednesday, the Department of Player Safety announced that they've fined Calgary Flames forward Mikael Backlund $5,000 for cross-checking Philadelphia Flyers forward Travis Konecny.

The incident occurred just over half-way through the first period in Tuesday night's game. Konecny had just taken a shot on Calgary's net and went to retrieve the puck in the corner when Backlund comes and shoved him from behind into the boards. Backlund received a two-minute minor for boarding on the play.

Backlund, 32, has five points (two goals, three assists), eight penalty minutes, and is a +/-0 in 16 games this season.
