Depending on how you look at it, the Florida Panthers may have received some good news on Wednesday regarding captain Aleksander Barkov.

Per interim head coach Andrew Brunette, the reigning Selke Trophy winner will not require surgery following a dangerous knee-on-knee collision with New York Islanders defenseman Scott Mayfield.

That's the silver-lining. The reverse side of this coin is that Barkov will still need to rehab his injury and is currently listed as week-to-week, so he is going to miss some time.

Barkov has appeared in 15 games for the Panthers this season, tallying 17 points over that span. The Panthers have a good depth at forward, but it will certainly be a challenge to continue at the pace they're on without their best player in the lineup for the next several games.

The Panthers currently lead the NHL with an 11-2-3 record, totalling 25 points, with the Hurricanes, Rangers, Capitals, Maple Leafs, Ducks and Oilers nipping at their heels.
