The NHL has slapped Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Tony DeAngelo with a fine for diving/embellishment, the league announced on Thursday.

The incident occurred during the 1st period of a November 6th meeting between the Hurricanes and the Florida Panthers after defenseman Gustav Forsling appeared to hook DeAngelo from behind. Forsling was issued a 2-minute penalty on the play. You can see the play in question in the video below.

Upon further review of the play, the league had decided that DeAngelo had embellished on the play, which was his second citation of the season, which warranted the $2000 fine. His first citation came on October 31st and the player was issued a warning.

DeAngelo signed with the Hurricanes as a free agent during the offseason, much to the displeasure of NHL fans and several NHL clubs. DeAngelo has earned quite the reputation around the league for his poor attitude and has been labeled a problem on more than one occasion, dating back to his time with the Sarnia Sting in junior.
