The young woman who was at the centre of vulgar and lewd chants by high school hockey fans near the end of October was back on the ice again Saturday for the first time since the terrible incident. This time, rather than despicable chants, she was met with cheers, according to an article from ABC. Meanwhile, those who subjected her to the awful chants have been disciplined by their school.

The female netminder, who has not been named, is the starter for the Mars Area High School hockey team in Pennsylvania. During a game on October 28th, around 50 or 60 students from Armstrong High School chanted disgusting things at her during a game that left her in tears by the end of the second period. To make matters worse, no one stepped in to stop it from happening.

While the goaltender made her return Saturday and will play again Monday, the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Hockey League on Thursday barred Armstrong students from their school's hockey games and placed the team on probation for the remainder of the 2021-22 season, including the playoffs. Siblings of players can attend, but only if they enter and sit with a parent or guardian.

Steve Mayers, who is the coach for the Mars hockey team, said the young woman is the only goaltender on the roster, although there have been several girls on the hockey team in the past.

"We have no one else. She plays varsity and JV for us,: said Meyers. "We've had plenty of girls in this league before and never heard anything like this. With all the training we're required to do as coaches about safe sports and sportsmanship, this should not happen. For it to fail this badly, it's really disappointing."

Armstrong's principal, Kirk Lorigan, has stated that the students involved in the disgusting act have been disciplined, but wouldn't say whether any received a suspension. Meanwhile, Armstrong County commissioners have demanded that the Armstrong Hockey Association hire two security guards for all future games. High school hockey in western Pennsylvania is not a school-sponsored sport, but a club sport run by parents and boosters at each school.
