When Vegas Golden Knights netminder Marc-Andre Fleury was acquired by the Chicago Blackhawks this summer, there was some initial talk that he may elect to retire, rather than to uproot his life in Vegas and relocate to a new city.

After meeting with the Blackhawks and speaking with some of his new teammates, Fleury had essentially been won over by the franchise and agreed to come to Chicago with the hope that they could play themselves into a playoff spot and there was a lot of belief within the group that with the reigning Vezina Trophy winner in the fold, they could go on a postseason run.

We now know that the Blackhawks have struggled mightily out of the gates, failing to build any real momentum and are the current owners of a very forgettable 0-7-2 record, good for 31st overall and just 1 point up on the Arizona Coyotes, who are last in the league through 8 games this season.

On Saturday, following yet another tough loss, 1-0 to the St. Louis Blues, despite playing a stellar individual game, Fleury addressed the media and let everyone know that the Blackhawks are very disappointed in themselves through their first 9 games of the season.

On Chicago's horrible start, Fleury had this to say:

"Very frustrating. Embarrassing... We had some hype with our team, with the new acquisitions this summer...and we all expected more out of our team. It's been tough to keep smiling."

The Blackhawks now travel home to Chicago with their tails between their legs to get back to the grindstone in practice in search of their first win of the season during a two-game homestead against the Ottawa Senators on Monday and an undefeated Carolina Hurricanes squad on Wednesday.

Fleury currently owns an uncharacteristic 0-5-0 record, with an abysmal 4.63 GAA and a career-worst .872 SV%.
