Following a hearing on Thursday, the NHL's Department of Player Safety has ruled to suspend Calgary Flames forward Blake Coleman for a pair of games for boarding Winnipeg Jets forward Jansen Harkins.

The suspension will keep Coleman out of the Flames' lineup for their final preseason contest against the same Winnipeg Jets on Friday, as well as the team's season opener on October 16th against the Edmonton Oilers. It will also cost him $24,500 in lost salary.

Coleman, 29, signed a 6-year, $29.4M deal with the Flames during free agency this offseason after winning back-to-back Stanley Cups with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2019-20 and 2020-21.

The Flames are hoping that Coleman can bring some of that fire and passion that helped his line move the needle for the Bolts during his tenure in Tampa.

As is often the case, when you play with an edge, sometimes you end up crossing the line, and that's precisely what happened in this case.

The Plano, Texas native recorded 14 goals and 31 points in 55 games with the Lightning last season.
