Per Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli, Team USA is nearing its announcement of the team's first three players for its 2022 Men's Olympic team.

According to Seravalli, Team USA has selected Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane and defenseman Seth Jones, as well as Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews.

It's safe to say that these picks surprise absolutely no one, given what each of these players brings to the table.

Kane, 32, is coming off of his third consecutive season at more than a point-per-game, racking up 66 points in 56 games for a very vanilla Blackhawks team last season. A 9-time All-Star, the former Art Ross, Hart and Ted Lindsay winner was an absolute no-brainer for the 2022 Men's Olympic team.

Jones, 27, has been trending in the wrong direction from a production standpoint over the last few seasons on a Blue Jackets team that stifled creativity in favor of playing safe to win low-event hockey games. He was acquired by the Hawks this offseason and immediately extended for 8 years, at $9.5M per season and a real opportunity to find his game again.

Matthews, 24, is coming off of a massive season, during which he scored an astonishing 41 goals in 52 games en route to his first career Rocket Richard Trophy. On a U.S. team that is expected to have several elite offensive weapons, Matthews is right at the top of that list and will likely see top line duty alongside one of his idols in the aforementioned Patrick Kane.
