A massive development coming out of Montreal on Thursday, as veteran goaltender Carey Price has entered the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program.

The following statement was released by the league and the players' association late Thursday morning:

"The National Hockey League (NHL) and the National Hockey League Players' Association (NHLPA) announced today that goalie Carey Price of the Montreal Canadiens will be away from the team while voluntarily taking part in the NHL/NHLPA player assistance program.

"There will be no further comment."

It's unclear at this point as to what the reasoning could be behind this move, but it goes without saying that we're all thinking about Price and his family during this time.

Price had been sidelined since this summer after undergoing offseason knee surgery.
