After yet another costly playoff suspension this past year, Nazem Kadri has been ripped by media as both selfish and reckless.

There is certainly reason to criticize the 30-year-old, who has now been suspended in three of the last four first-round series he has been a part of. Despite the costly errors however, he is confident that his teammates still believe in his abilities.

«They understand who I am as a person and what kind of character I have,» Kadri said. «I'd like to think that I have everyone's respect in that locker room.»

Earlier this year, Kadri received an eight-game playoff suspension after a high hit on St. Louis Blues defenceman Justin Faulk. He was forced to miss the final two games of the opening round versus the Blues, and sat and watched all six games in the second round, a series in which his team lost to the Vegas Golden Knights.

While not all his teammates were able to speak on the situation, one of the Avalanche's best players in Mikko Rantanen defended Kadri as they prepare to begin the 2021-22 season.

«There's no trust issues,» Rantanen said. «I don't really need to tell him what to do because he's a veteran guy. He's going to get over it for sure.»

The Avalanche have a great shot at winning the Stanley Cup this upcoming season, as they have one of the deepest rosters in the entire league. However, Kadri is a big part of that, and if the Avs stand a chance at a lengthy playoff run, they need him in the lineup. In 56 games last season, he scored 11 goals and 32 points.
