Moving on from Edmonton was for more than just for hockey reasons. Over three years ago, Adam Larsson's father passed away. His father, Robert, was a former professional player in Sweden, and he came over to Edmonton to watch his son play. While going out for a walk after arriving in the city, Robert suffered a heart attack.

"You learn to live with it," Larsson said. "That's the route you go, I think. You never stop thinking about it, but you learn to live with it. It was a tough three years, and the memory still comes back. But I'm in a good place now, mentally."

This off-season, Larsson was set to become an unrestricted free agent, and was ultimately selected by the Seattle Kraken in July's Expansion Draft. As soon as the Kraken drafted Larsson, he signed a four-year contract worth $16 million ($4 million AAV).

Larsson said that signing with the Kraken was because he couldn't return to Edmonton, the city that his father passed away in. He needed a fresh start.

"It was tough to come back. That was a big factor, for sure," Larsson said. "It was a real tough decision, and I felt like I had to do it for my personal well-being. I feel like there was nowhere else to get a fresh start."
