The 2021 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship had to be held in a bubble, with no spectators due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic. The hope is that the 2022 tournament in Edmonton and Red Deer, Alberta will have fans, but that may change, and we could possibly see a second consecutive tournament without fans in attendance according to Darren Dreger of TSN.

"It is possible, that is obviously worst case scenario for all involved. Hockey Canada and the governing bodies are paying close attention to what's happening in the province of Alberta right now. They're going to continue to monitor the NHL clubs, Western Hockey League teams as well. The good news is that 75% of the tickets have been sold, so Hockey Canada can wait until the beginning of December to ultimately make the decision on what the capacity issues are. You might see some unique travel twists, maybe you charter the teams in and then they fly commercial out. So there's still work to be done," Dreger said on Tuesday's edition of Insider Trading.

The 2022 World Juniors are set to get underway on December 26th, as usual, with the gold medal game being played on January 5th. Group A will be played in Red Deer and consists of the United States, Russia, Sweden, Slovakia, and Switzerland. Group B will be in Edmonton and features the host nation, Canada, along with Finland, Germany, the Czech Republic, and Austria.
