Recently, there was some huge news in the hockey community as Nashville Predators prospect Luke Prokop came out as gay, making him the first player under contract with an NHL team to come out.

While many voiced their support for the 19-year-old defenceman, there was no name bigger to support him than the legendary Elton John, who called Prokop to congratulate him.

«We just had a really good conversation,» Prokop said. «He congratulated me, just asked me how the day was, how the support was, and then he thanked me for being brave and coming out. It was a really cool conversation.»

Prokop went on to explain that while he was honoured to talk to him, it was his mother who was over the moon with excitement.

«I was like, 'Mom, you'll never guess who phoned me,» Prokop explained. «'Mom, that was Elton John.' She just started screaming, like, 'What?' She almost started breaking down. She was probably more excited for me than I was for myself to get that call.»

Prokop went on to mention that he also received a phone call from the president of hockey operations for the Pittsburgh Penguins in Brian Burke, along with a text from Toronto Maple Leafs superstar Auston Matthews. It is extremely heartwarming to see all the support Prokop has gotten, and incredible to hear that the news made it all the way to somebody as high on the celebrity scale as Elton John.
