The Seattle Kraken made one of the bigger splashes in free agency, signing UFA goaltender Philipp Grubauer to a 6-year, $35.4M contract on July 28th - a deal that carries a $5.9M cap hit.

There was an issue with the deal, however, according to the NHL's central registry, and the contract has now officially been rejected by the league.

CapFriendly tweeted out the news on Saturday, providing some insight as to why the deal has been rejected. Apparently, the Seattle Kraken had violated "front-loaded contract requirements", according to the popular website.

What does this mean for Grubauer and the Kraken? Well, essentially, not much. The two sides merely have to come together and restructure the deal and resubmit it to the NHL's central registry. Once the contract is examined and deemed to be in compliance with the appropriate requirements, everything will be resolved and Grubauer's new deal will be approved.

Let's go easy on the Kraken here.. it's their first time.

**Update at 7:17pm, according to the Seattle Times' Geoff Baker, the Kraken has removed $250,000 from year 3 of Grubauer's deal and added it to the 2nd year to become compliant. The contract is now under review and is expected to be approved shortly**
