Avs finally re-sign captain Gabriel Landeskog

The Colorado Avalanche and their captain, Gabriel Landeskog, finally reached an agreement on a new contract late Tuesday night. Many teams had interest in him, and it seemed likely that if he had hit unrestricted free agency, he would have had plenty of offers.

The deal is reportedly for 8-years and $56 million which comes out to a $7 million AAV. The agreement came down to the last second as NHL teams had until midnight Tuesday to sign their own players to eight-year contracts.

Landeskog has played for Colorado for 10 years now and has been the team's captain for nine. In 54 games last season, Landeskog had 20 goals and 32 assists, while also tallying 13 points in 10 playoff games.
