While it seemed likely at this point last week that Landeskog and the Avalanche were headed for a bit of a messy divorce over contract negotiations, apparently the two sides are working hard to find a way to meet in the middle.

Earlier on Tuesday, the New York Post's Larry Brooks had suggested that Landeskog (who was rumoured to have been asking as much as $8M-$9M on a long-term deal) had been offered just three years and $6.3M by the Avs. Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman has since stated otherwise.

According to Friedman, the Avs may have tabled a 7-year, $49M deal to the Landeskog camp, with the door remaining open on a possible 8-year deal as well.

Landeskog, 28, is a key piece for the Avalanche and there's no doubt that the two sides will continue to plug away in an attempt to avoid free agency.

The Avs captain is coming off of a 7-year, $39M deal ($5.57M AAV).
