While Vancouver Canucks forward Jake Virtanen found himself on waivers and going through the buyout process with his soon-to-be former team, word came out from the Canucks that his buyout was not a result of the sexual assault allegations he was facing, or the surrounding investigation. Early word on this situation outlined this as a hockey decision, not relating to Virtanen's off-ice situation.

Shortly after that detail emerged, another report from the "Survivor Stories Project" suggested that the list of Virtanen's alleged victims was growing and that investigators were becoming aware of more and more stories stemming from Virtanen's past, as far back as his Junior days, with more potential victims coming forward.

On Tuesday, The Fourth Period's David Pagnotta reported that there is actually some interest in Virtanen on the open market, naming the Carolina Hurricanes as a potential landing spot in free agency.

Obviously, it goes without saying that everyone is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. That said, with the increased focus on Virtanen and the potential legal issues he is facing, I would be absolutely shocked to see him sign a new NHL contract before teams have a clearer picture of whether or not there is anything to the claims against Virtanen. Just my two cents.
