According to several reports, Zach Hyman signing with the Edmonton Oilers on a long-term deal is all but set in stone. Hyman, who was in Edmonton Wednesday to speak with the team's management, will be an unrestricted free agent on July 28th after finishing a four-year contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs that paid him $2.25 million per season. According to Sportsnet's Chris Johnston, he's in line for a big raise, with two possible contracts on the table.

Johnston states that Edmonton is attempting to work out a deal with Toronto for Hyman's rights before free agency hits on the 28th. That would allow the team to sign him to an eight-year deal that Johnston believes will be in the range of $5.125 million AAV. However, if a deal with Toronto can't be reached, Hyman will sign a seven-year deal with the Oilers on the 28th, with the annual cap hit coming in at closer to $5.5 million.

Hyman, 29, will effectively double his salary and have a guaranteed contract that takes him past his mid-30s. There's no word on whether any NTC or NMC will be included, but it's highly likely that will be the case, at least at the latter part of the contract.

Hyman had back-to-back 20 plus goal seasons from 2018 to 2020. He dropped to 15 goals and 33 points in 2020-21 but, of course, played fewer games due to the shortened season. If a deal has been reached between Edmonton and Toronto for Hyman's rights, we'll likely hear about it on Thursday.
